As it sat hovering above Houston, Texas, the storm dumped torrential rains, creating the worst flood in the city's history. The storm caused billions in damage and took the lives of twenty-nine people. In an unprecedented effort, every television in station Houston agreed to simulcast the One United Houston program. Hosted by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black, who performed in separate sets, the program also included live performances by La Mafia, Yolanda Adams, Pat Greene, Lyle Lovett and others. The program included a showing of the documentary "The Night the Rains Came," which provided a dramatic look at the people whose lives were devastated that night.
