Though he seems poised to become a great warlord with loyal and experienced officers at his side, he is ambushed randomly and suffers a fatal wound at the hands of his attackers while fleeing the ambush. Despite his young age and will, Ce cannot overcome his injury, and dies in the presence of his wife and family. The officials and generals of Wu are broken with grief, and some worry Ce's younger brother, Sun Quan, is too young and inexperienced to lead Wu in the face of an attack from Cao Cao in the north. Despite this doubt, Quan presents himself with confidence and sincerity to his court, silencing the doubters and cementing his position as heir to his father's and brother's legacy. See less
