Uniontown, Pa: Rev. Albert Neilson Dayton delivers the invocation at the unveiling of the monument to Major General Braddock, English commander in the French and Indian War, who died in 1755. Mons, Belgium: The visit of King Albert of Belgium, is marked by a great public demonstration, in which the troops take part. New York, N.Y: One hundred and five penniless survivors of the burned steamship "Volturno" are brought here on the "Grosser Kurfuerst," and many of them are given shelter by the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigration Aid Society. Lincoln, Neb: Governor John H. Morehead personally inspects the work of the convicts engaged in building roads. San Francisco, Cal: Columbus Day is celebrated here by an impressive bay pageant, in which every type of craft is represented in the gaily decorated flotilla. Albany, N.Y: Martin H. Glynn, who becomes governor of New York when William Sulzer is removed from office by a vote of 43 to 12. Berlin, Germany: The great Zeppelin aerial warship "L-11," flying 600 feet above the ground, before the explosion that hurls 28 men to their death. This is the seventh disaster suffered by a German dirigible. Panama Canal Zone: The valves are opened and water flows into Culebra Cut for the first time, marking the completion of an important part of the great canal.
