Stepping into that light, he created a dance for the camera which...See moreCreated in Paris in October, 2011, 'Patient Spider' was inspired by a pattern of late-afternoon light cast on the wall of Sparling's atelier at Cite Internationale des Arts. Stepping into that light, he created a dance for the camera which, when taken into editing, suggested a mosaic-like metamorphosis. The resulting work provides a web or kaleidoscope of multiple windows onto the body as it scans inwards and outwards from its promontory. The title, taken from the Walt Whitman poem, 'A Noiseless Patient Spider', and its musical setting by composer Yehuda Yannay, further locates the work as a soulful exploration painted in light, color and the contours of the naked human form.
