Though forced into retirement due to health concerns, Blake still carries the spirit of a pilot who never truly left the cockpit. When his courageous and curious 10-year-old granddaughter Sarah makes a heartfelt birthday request to fly with him in his seaplane, Blake cannot say no. Despite medical warnings, he grants her wish, believing one short celebratory flight over the sea will be harmless. What begins as a magical birthday adventure quickly turns into a nightmare. Mid-flight, Blake suffers a severe medical episode and becomes unresponsive, leaving Sarah alone in the cockpit thousands of feet above water. With no aviation knowledge and only her bravery to rely on, she becomes the unlikely captain of the aircraft. On the ground, panic erupts as her mother Janie, grandmother Elma, Maryland State Police, and Eastern Shore Search and Rescue scramble to coordinate a desperate aerial intervention. Guided remotely by air traffic control and supported by rescue helicopters attempting a high-risk midair stabilization, Sarah must follow life-or-death instructions to turn the plane back toward land. Low fuel, failing communications, a rapidly approaching bridge, and unstable air support create a cascade of escalating dangers that push both the rescue team and the young girl to their absolute limits. In a final, breathtaking attempt to bring the aircraft down safely near Assateague Island, Sarah must summon every ounce of courage she has ever possessed.
