According to forensic pathologist Dr. Strahl, the cause of death was electrocution from a hairdryer. The room was locked from the inside. Suicide? An accident? Evidence at the scene suggests murder. The distraught Gerlach claims to have been unaware of the crime. Suspicion falls on his daughter, Melanie Böhm. Her 83-year-old father apparently planned to adopt Sylwia to bind the caregiver, who was underpaid by her placement agency, more closely to him. This would have made the Polish woman, Sylwia, an equal heir alongside Melanie. Melanie had just fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking over a café, incurring significant debt in the process.
