"My Cabin in Caroline" was filmed on location at the Birthplace of "My Cabin in Caroline", at the 1905 cabin/farmhouse, that launched the music careers of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys. The author, John Ralph Pennington, wrote the song in 1948, about a cabin (farmhouse) in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Wilkes County, North Carolina. It was the home of the blue-eyed girl in the song who later became his wife. The song was recorded by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs in 1948. It was the first ever recording done for the Mercury Sessions for the original Foggy Mountain Boys. Lester Flatt approached Mr. Pennington, offering him $50 to let him record "My Cabin in Caroline" which through the years has become known as a most beloved and widely played bluegrass standard. The Original recording of "My Cabin in Caroline" by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mtn. Boys, also included Mac Wiseman, Cedric Rainwater, and Jim Shumate. At the time of the original recording in 1948, Jim Shumate was a long-time family friend of Ralph Pennington and a cousin to the future Ruby Felts Pennington. The music video accompanies a recently released compilation album produced by the late Ralph Pennington's daughter, Vivian Pennington Hopkins and co-producer, David Johnson. The album is a tribute to pioneer singer-songwriter, John Ralph Pennington. The album, "Back to the Cabin in Caroline", features Vivian Pennington Hopkins with Herb Pedersen and a host of other Grammy Award Winning musicians.
