The shakedown was not supposed to go this way, as the Brooch, a club of smart leaders at the school, would not allow it. Yet Artie kept the secret within his close companions, one being his right-hand man, Trent. Trent's fear and hate for Artie expanded as Artie's delusion and radical nature grew. Yet Trent was also burdened by his constant lucid dreams. Johnny, Trent's cousin, moved into town to stay with his cousin. He soon became wrapped up in Trent's wrongdoings when confronted by Sinclair and Caroline. Sinclair was highly against the Brooch due to the rumors spreading regarding Isaac's disappearance. Sinclair fuels Johnny's easy temper, resulting in the destruction of a Brooch election. Trent is blamed for the incident. Artie's paranoia gets the best of him, and he ends up killing Trent. Johnny, feeling betrayed, attacks Sinclair, leading to a winner-less fight. Johnny, on his way home, tired and weak, gets hit by a car on his motorcycle and dies. Sinclair, fueled with anger, sneaks into a Brooch party with Caroline's help. He exposes Artie's violent doings to the rest of the club. Betrayed and fueled with rage, the club surrounds Artie and destroys him. Sinclair watches, knowing he had rid the town of Artie's torment, yet also realizing he had no one left.
