To what extent is this non-journalistic channel an addition to the news supply? In the first episode of 'Qu'est-ce que Cestmocro', we will address this question, analyse its success and start a search for the owner(s) behind Cestmocro. Sanne Kruikemeier says it is positive that Cestmocro is reaching many young people with the news. 'It can be an attention-grabber for more in-depth coverage,' the professor of Digital Media and Society knows from research. However, she also identifies a problem. 'Traditional media have an editorial charter and employ journalists who adhere to journalistic standards. They verify information and allow both sides of the story to be heard (ed.: anyone accused of something should be able to respond). This is very unclear at Cestmocro.' Cestmocro appears to be more popular than average among young people with a migration and bi-cultural background. According to Ilias Spanjer, the former Head of Content at ParraTV, this is one of the pillars of its success. 'It's in the name, there's something Moroccan about it. That gives a different perspective on certain things. I am half Moroccan and half Dutch. I have that too. I also look at some things a little differently than the traditional Dutchman, insofar as he still exists.' Who is behind Cestmocro remains a mystery.
