By welcoming the media with open arms, and by promoting itself. Where does this come from, and how is it specifically reflected in the European Parliament? Clara van de Wiel (EU correspondent for NRC), Bert van Slooten (editor-in-chief of Brusselse Nieuwe) and MEP Bas Eickhout (GL-PvdA) talk about the European 'PR machine'. Eickhout: 'I sincerely believe that Brussels is more open to the media than The Hague.' Van Slooten: 'You can rent a free studio here. You can hire a camera crew for free. It's all possible.' But the way the EU tries to draw attention to itself also has a downside. Van de Wiel: 'There is often this kind of spin on it - "Europe has done something great again!" That bothers me as a journalist. I don't need all that PR fluff all the time.'
