Ryan believes there are many stereotypes about wolves: that they are violent or a hazard to society and that their medical care needs to be handled through uncomfortable and scary restraint. Ryan trains the wolves using cooperative care. The wolves can consent to their procedures including wolf trims and, in Sparrow's case, upcoming vaccinations. Through his work at Wolf Park, Ryan has built deep relationships. Including Kailani, who passed away due to cancer. He has also become close with Sparrow and is highly valued among the team members at Wolf Park. Ryan's work shows us what is possible, in how we can care for wild animals and how we can have relationships with them. See less
