In this live talk show, photographer and photo book enthusiast Rob Hornstra and documentary photographer Giya Makondo-Wills interview the storytellers - photographers, designers and publishers. They share extraordinary stories on a variety of subjects. For everyone who loves stories and wants to be transported to another world by the storytellers themselves. The photographers who will be guests during this edition: Sebastián Bruno will talk about his books "The Dynamic" and "Ta-Ra". "The Dynamic" is the story of Wales' most distinctive local newspaper, its editors Tony Flatman and Julian Meek, and the community they represent, as told by the newspaper's former staff photographer, Sebastián Bruno. The newspaper's short but intense life coincided with some of the most tumultuous years in contemporary British history, characterised by the advent of fake news, austerity policies and Brexit. In the working-class communities of South Wales, 'ta-ra' is another way of saying goodbye. This forms the backdrop for the photo series "Ta-Ra" created between 2013 and 2022 in villages and towns throughout South Wales. In "How shall we greet the sun", Thana Faroq explores the personal stories and complex emotional lives of a small group of young female refugees living in the Netherlands, including Thana herself. The work reflects on their shared and individual journeys and takes a look at both tangible and metaphorical futures. Many of them are at a point in their lives where they are navigating the formation of new identities - shaped by new cultural contexts, power dynamics, memories and homesickness for the past. Peter Pflügler takes us on an intimate journey through the labyrinth of a family secret in "Now is not the right time". His father's suicide attempt remained hidden for twenty years. And yet he always knew somehow. He carefully examines the traces of this hushed, dark story. Browsing through this somewhat uncomfortable landscape, the viewer is invited to look further and discover hidden texts and images between the pages. Now is not the right time is about the impossibility of secrets, about what we share when we hide, and about intergenerational trauma. Finally, Tanya Habjouqa will be present via video link to talk about her book "Occupied Pleasure" (2012/2013). The book is a testament to Palestinian resilience as they pursue simple pleasures despite an endless occupation. After years of documenting the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for the media and NGOs, the issue took on an intimate turn for Tanya Habjouqa. She married a Palestinian and the subsequent birth of her children has made this conflict a lived and shared narrative. Written by FOTODOK See less
