That's what most people tend to think about when they hear about the South Bronx. A few miles from Broadway, the world's theater capital, the South Bronx is not a place people associate with art, especially not theater. Open Hydrant, the first and only professional theater group in the South Bronx, is trying to change that. For half a year, drama instructors Sarah Rosenberg and Luis Cardenas have been preparing local teenagers to become professional actors. For many of these kids, acting is the only way to get out of the Bronx. Fourteen-year-old Stephen is one of their students, whose biggest wish for his family is to leave the borough. Written by
