He scored the last-minute goal to take Panama to their first ever World Cup in 2018, and his movie star looks have elevated his status to that of a deity. The night that Panama qualified, the president decreed the day a national holiday. In a nation known chiefly for tax evasion and its canal, Panamanians saw the achievement as a chance to redefine the nation in the eyes of the world. In thew rough barrio where Torres grew up in the shadow of Panama City's skyscrapers, talented brothers Oso, 11, and Chuchuneco, 14, play football almost every waking minute to try to follow Torres's path.
