At that time, the question arose as to how the traditions and history of the school, which had been established in Hongo, could be transferred to the new campus at Komaba. With great effort, the students lived together in a dormitory, managed their own school life, and cultivated a sense of elitism and homogeneity as "First High School students" according to the strict school rules and standards that had been handed down from generation to generation. This closed culture characterized the First High School. However, during the increasingly intense World War II, it was not possible to maintain the school's identity and traditions. As a researcher at the First High School, the main character is attempting to understand the school's archival materials from the 1930s and 1940s at Komaba Campus. Through contact with various historical archives, the space and time of the past and the present are intertwined with Komaba Campus, and coincidentally, this occurs in the consciousness of the researcher, who has dedicated himself to the investigation in search of an answer to the question: "What is the First High School?" It becomes a historical journey in which the man directly touches upon the process of understanding the past reality from the present perspective. See less
