The film tells the daily life of this old man in a Sonacotra hostel in Bordeaux, his wanderings, his forced exile. Mechti then becomes a symbol, that of the sacrifice made by the "Indigenous" veterans, and of the oblivion of France for which they had fought. Forced for 14 years in exile in France to receive his meager retirement pension military, Mechti had to return home, to Morocco, after winning his case against the French administration, despite President Chirac's declarations to decrystallize the pensions of the Republic's Forgotten in 2006. In December 2009, aged 91 , he finally receives a reassessed pension, fifty years after its crystallization, with only two years of arrears. Touched by Jean-Claude Cheyssial's first documentary, a young history teacher from the Bordeaux region, Fatiha El Ayadi, decides to meet Mohamed Mechti and becomes his spiritual granddaughter. Together, they plan to go back to Morocco, he to stay with his family, she to accompany him on his return to his native country.
