After the first few bites, the detective trio asks themselves the three big questions: What's in it? How is it made? And where does it come from? The investigation begins with the rice plant. After a few hours of gardening, Ole realizes that he'd rather be a detective than a gardener. But he's surprised that there are so many grains of rice in one plant and that there are so many different types of rice. But rice alone doesn't make sushi. Elisabeth wants to explore the special taste and does a sensory test in the laboratory with food chemist Viktoria Ganß. There she learns that in addition to sweet, sour, salty and bitter, there is a fifth taste: umami. This represents a meaty, spicy taste - just like soy sauce.
