He is one of the last sacred monsters recognized and appreciated by all the communities that make up Belgium. Toots' popularity is certainly due to his warm and friendly nature. He has a taste for jokes, his laughter is appreciated and known by all. A self-made man, he realized the American dream: to succeed in the USA from scratch, arriving in 1952 in New York without a penny in his pocket. Success came quickly, as Toots is probably the only Belgian to have played with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis. He gave the harmonica its letters of nobility, an instrument that was mainly used to liven up evenings by the fire in westerns.
