A mere two hours away by plane from Zurich or Milan, northern Albania, although geographically close, is largely unknown to the rest of Europe. It remains hostile and unfathomable, largely because of its implacable customs and rituals. Only when an Albanian, fleeing some remote mountain region and the customs he has violated, is killed in the streets of Europe or America, do we remember this other corner of Europe... Last spring a film crew from TSI crossed the Cursed Mountains of northern Albania to look into the historical and social origins of the medieval laws that make up the Kanun, the Code.
