Her father objects to him. Belmont puts up a game on the old man. He gets his wash woman to dress in his mother's finery and has Geraldine introduce her to her father as a countess. The old man takes to the drudge and falls in love with her. In the park he forgets himself and while making love to her, kisses her. Belmont photographs the kiss. The next day he shows the old man the wash woman performing his duties and he nearly faints. Belmont shows him the picture and the old man agrees to the marriage.
