He leaves for Corsica and has to break his engagement. He is then invited to his cousin's wedding, Catalina. But the groom's father objects to the union. A vendetta is declared and, soon afterwards, the groom is found dead on the road to Ajaccio, murdered by Michel, Catalina's father, who then hides in the maquis. Jean decides to join him there and his health gets better. One day, Michel is mortally wounded by the police and Jean learns that his father died too. He, Jacques and Catalina travel back to Paris so that his mother is not left alone. He finds that Evelyne took a new fiancé, Max Carlier, who surrenders after a fight. Evelyne and Jean get married.
