Going back to an old hangout spot he and his two best friends - Amy and Keith - would go to when they were kids, Aidan discovers that he had actually died a few years ago and is living in a fake world manifested by a piece of him that was unable to let go, and has been living in a fantasy ever since. He is shown a series of events that occurred after his passing that his world's Amy takes him through. By the end he realizes he has to make a life altering, devastating choice between living in his perfect world built around his passing, knowing that in reality his family and friends have suffered, or accept that he is gone and move on entirely.
