Background: Growing up in the 60's, many guys got hooked on motor racing and engineering. The Southern California speed culture was in high gear, partially fueled by the British invasion of Jim Clark and Lotus dominating Indy, having already conquered F1. American heroes Phil Hill, Dan Gurney and Mario Andretti were taking on Europe's best, inspiring movies like "Grand Prix" and "Le Mans." International driving schools like Jim Russell's in the UK developed top young talent like Emerson Fittipaldi who won his first world championship for Lotus in 1972. By the following summer, every boy racer with a few grand to burn found his way to England. Bob was among them, and it stuck. Look for James Hunt with Bob at OMS ('74 California Grand Prix) early in the video. See less
