Beginning of the journey in Strasbourg: near the train station Jérôme meets Marie Froehlichler Abitbol, manager of the "Bistrot and chocolate".They begin to walk through the old town ("Quartier de la Petite-France") where the tanners and ...See moreBeginning of the journey in Strasbourg: near the train station Jérôme meets Marie Froehlichler Abitbol, manager of the "Bistrot and chocolate".They begin to walk through the old town ("Quartier de la Petite-France") where the tanners and fishermen used to live: there are many half-timbered houses.They enter into a shop of traditional Alsatian costumes ad see a young Alsatian woman probing her traditional wedding costume.Then the take the tramway and go to the docks where they see new buildings.On the next day Marie and Jérôme make jogging in the Parc de l'Orangerie, meet a team of American football and arrive at the Bistrot and Chocolate.Later Jérôme goes to the Our Lady cathedral of Strasbourg where he meets Olivier Tarrozzi, a specialist of bells (in French "campanologue"): Olivier shows Jérôme the beautiful stained glasses and then they climb the belfry and reach the bells area: there the biggest bell (1427) sounds about 10 times each year : there are other 15 bells which sounds every hour.On the morning Jérôme is invited to the visit of the "Hôtel du Corbeau" with its footbridge to the old parts (half-timbered buildings): the place has been declared "Monument historique" en 1930 and has received famous guests like the Duke of Bavaria in 1570 or the King of Prussia in 1740).Then Jérôme travels to Kirchberg: the family Kippelen and the cows with their bells will move to the meadow land of Lochberg (from 550 meters to 950 meters): there the family manages the restaurant and farm: there is traditional Alsatian music and dances.Later Jérôme meets Cédric Schreiber and they make a boat tour on the "Canal de la Marne au Rhin" and arrive at Saverne: a resort for tourists who navigate on the canal.Then Jérôme meets Frédéric Cueney and they visit the castle of Haut Barr (built in the 12th century): they enjoy a beautiful sight over Alsatia,the they go to Rangen "La Ferme de Marie": where Frédéric shows the old farm he has restored (about 17 years of works) and explains that he is member of an association for the protection and restoring of Alsatian houses.Later in Colmar Jérôme meets Marc Muller a violinist, makes a short visit of the center of Colmar (half-timbered houses, the Little Venice, the market at the river) with Marc's wife and goes to the concert.On the next day Jérôme and Marc go the Gravel Pit of the Fort; they meet Serge Dumas , a biologist who explained how the gravel pit became a lake with its fauna and flora (the water came from the water table): they dive and Jérôme could see perches and pikes.Later Jérôme meets Joseph Peter, a member of the "Club Vosgien" , a rambling association founded in 1872 which cares for the maintenance and waymarking of the footpaths and trails (33.000 members).They climb to the Grand Ballon or Ballon de Guebwiller: they drink fresh water at the water source (1.325 meters above sea level) , make a stop at the Chalet du "Club Vosgien" to eat a "Flammekueche with Munster cheese" and finally arrive at the top at 1.424 meters above sea level.
