Beginning of the travel in the beach of Balos: a seaside with blue waters.Then Lyssandros Leivaditaki, a fisherman and Tiga travels by boat to Chaniá (La Canée in French): there Marianna Leivaditaki, the daughter of Lyssandros receives ...See moreBeginning of the travel in the beach of Balos: a seaside with blue waters.Then Lyssandros Leivaditaki, a fisherman and Tiga travels by boat to Chaniá (La Canée in French): there Marianna Leivaditaki, the daughter of Lyssandros receives Tiga and they have a walk through the town, they see the mosque built in 1645 (now a museum), then they see a church with a minaret and and a tower and arrive at the market, they meet Antonis Leivaditaki, the brother of Marianna: later Antonis and Sophie go fishing: (sea breams).Back to the town all the family is together with Tiga and they eat grilled fishes.After that Tiga travels to Kalyvès : at the post office she meets Manolis Sergakis, the postman and together they will make the mail delivery in 10 villages: in a place they take a coffee and see how the men are playing with their "komboloï", in another place they deliver mail and taste cakes made by Maria, a friend of Manolis.On the next day Tiga travels by car and meets Christoforos Baladimas, a hiking guide: they go to the mountain refuge managed by Christoforos.On the morning Tiga takes coffee and they walk through the Gorge of Samaria and arrive at the beach of Agia Roumeli where they swim in the sea.After that Sophie travels to Rethymnon where she meets Annelyn Kindynis, a guesthouse owner: an old Venitian house built in the 16th century: they walk through the town and arrive at the shop of Manolis Stagani, a luthier who makes the Cretan lyras: then appears Soula, a singer and Cretan lyra lyra player and she plays a Cretan song.Later Tiga meets in Alikianos the Orthodox priest Manolis Chatzidakis: he explains Tiga that that the Orthodox priests are married (he has 3 children) and invites Sophie to his house: Manolis is beekeeper and shows Sophie his beehives and speaks about the medicinal use of the honey (for example the thyme honey).Later Tiga travels to Platanias and enters into a tailor's shop, she meets there Yossif who need a traditional costume and invites her to his dance school, she goes to the school and learn together with young girls and boys some Cretan traditional dance: later Tiga goes to the spectacle performed by Yossif and his friends. Besides we see zooms about the beginning of the tourism in Crete (the hippies, the divers, the nautical sports), about the Cretan diet and the longevity, about the crossroads of the civilizations in Crete, about the plants brought by the Arabs, about the relationship with Minor Asia, about the Cretan women, about the squids and the Minoan civilization and about the young people who have returned to Crete and and the French-Dutch couple who produce olive oil and honey.
