Adam, Ben, and Chloe have been living on rice gruel for weeks. Chloe cannot stand the painful wait for the harvest and good food promised by Ben. Meanwhile, kind and loving Adam is doing his best to care for a batch of unhatched duck eggs following the loss of their mother. One day, Adam, uncertain of the fertility of an egg, took it into the kitchen for Ben to inspect. Chloe immediately recognized it as an excellent chance to eat something different and is demanding Ben to cook the egg. However, if Ben cracks open the egg, and it happens to be fertile, he will have killed the embryo, which is a serious offense to their Buddhist values.
