Breaking through the Union lines, the secret service man feigns total deafness when apprehended and the ruse serves him in good stead in obtaining much valuable information. He is put to many tests however, during those strenuous months, and his disguised is finally pierced and his methods exposed. The spy is allowed to over hear a Union officer relating an incident concerning his sweetheart, and forgetting himself, gives the jailers the proof which they seek of his purpose within their lines. But the young lady proves equal to the occasion and through her influence a reprieve is obtained, and the war's termination finds a happy Union for the lovers. Written by Bruce R. Bardarik See less
