Young British Artists (YBAs) became Britain's most-prominent 20th century art movement, contesting hegemonic norms and making London world-famous as an art city. Female artists from the legendary group were propelled into the international scene achieving notoriety and major highlights in their artist's career. The relevance of their artistic trajectory reignites the gender debate asking why, almost 30 years later, the gender imbalance persists in every major collection in the world - female artists remain underrepresented. HOLD ME CLOSE is an amalgamation of experiences, words and artworks that raise the voice of a group of groundbreaking British female artists outlining an up-close-and-personal portrait of women in the arts. The artists rather than the subject matter itself is what makes this film compelling. Most of the emotional load and intensity of the film comes from the cross-fertilisation between factual and personal interviews. Sometimes delivering aesthetic evaluation, sometimes gazing at and otherwise admiring art and its edges, the art experience becomes accessible to all: capable of engaging audiences, enhancing their critical perception of art and enabling them to grasp the significance of what it takes to be an artist.
