The Evangelists were a prolific gang of thieves that, ten years before the opening of our story, had made a reputation for themselves in the local criminal underworld, and amassed a fortune stealing religious artifacts from various churches which they then resold on the international black market. During their last job, a police officer was killed and Massimo, the leader of the gang was wounded and captured, while the remaining three members vanished with the loot. Refusing to betray the identity of his accomplices or the location of the loot, Massimo takes the fall and ends up serving a ten-year prison term.
