In a crisis meeting, however, Jakob and Madlon agree that their convenience marriage can still be saved despite everything. Madlon is also concerned about Jona: She doesn't want to take away her mother-in-law's administrator and best friend, because living together under one roof isn't possible. A stormy night that Jakob spent with the charming but 13 years younger Clarissa as a reaction to Madlon's infidelity, he dismisses in retrospect as a slip. However, Clarissa fights with all her might for Jakob, who is running away from his feelings. He wants to take on a new job in Hamburg and is already on the move with Madlon - when his father Carl Ludwig suffers a stroke. As Jona watches day and night at her husband's bedside, Jakob experiences for the first time how much his cold, unapproachable mother loves and suffers. The two slowly become closer and Jakob finally learns the sad secret: as a child, Jona could not prevent her little stepbrother Fritz from drowning in Lake Constance. Since then, she has been tormented by guilt and fear that she will only bring bad luck to those who are close to her. So she has withdrawn from everyone she loves into a parallel world on the other side of the lake. When Carl Ludwig wakes up from his coma, there are a number of decisions to be made.
