Seen as the crown jewel in the Nazi propaganda war effort, the production of Titanic was fueled as much by Hitler and Goebbel's envy of Hollywood as it was for their disdain for the Allies they were at war with. The film, which cost the equivalent of nearly 200 million dollars, was at the time, the most expensive film ever produced. The lavish production descended into chaos and ultimately resulted in the controversial death of the film's garish director Herbert Selpin, at the hands of the Nazis. See less
