Several months later - with the couple expecting a child - his B-24, a submarine hunter, vanishes over the Atlantic near France. Born three months later and now retired in North Kingstown, his daughter, Mayli-Anne "Lee" Waterbury, "meets" him late in her life via letters he wrote his mother. She also learns that her dad and his crew-mates carried out a valorous action for which they went unrecognized.
