Their work developed out of the coincidental discovery of a mysterious video tape, which Arnold found left in a camcorder he purchased at a local pawn shop in Los Angeles. As a vivid rejection of Hollywood's reign on film and video fidelity standard, their work utilizes unique visual algorithms and densely composed soundscapes to vitrify and re-vision thirty seconds of videotape shot by the camcorder's previous owner, that was surely destined for the garbage. The duo reclaim the trash heap of our image culture as a place of exploration and innovation, and by doing so, transform the space of the contemporary movie theater into a primordial encounter between human beings and the surrogate apparatus we tirelessly design to imitate the function of our sensory organs (i.e. projector/camera = eye, microphone/speaker = ear). By rejecting the codes of high-definition culture, Tamm and Arnold explore the implications of cinema's affect on our bodies changing evolution, and their collaboration proffers that what lies unseen between the frames of digital images proliferating around us, may be stranger than we can physically fathom.
