His intricate work and hypnotizing use of patterns sing under a layer of resin that creates a slick window into strange parallel worlds. In his ambitious 2010 solo exhibition "Paralleled Opposites" at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles, Whalen designed a large cube to house an installation that featured an intricately stitched paper sculpture, as well as the sonic artistry of Carla Azar.
