He had maxed out his character and created a powerful guild. After years of playing, the game company decided to shut down the game server. the main character was feeling sentimental so he decided to stay in the game until the server shut down. when he stayed in the game, he became stuck, unable to exit the game. When the game timer went to zero he woke up but all of the NPC's - non-playable characters, were thinking for themselves and making their own decisions.
