The Rodriguez family is divided between Tlaxcala, Mexico, New York City and New Haven, CT. Daniel starts in Mexico but comes to the United States on a visa but works illegally as a dishwasher. He visits and stays with members of his family. Ultimately he is deported. The second story line involves the CAFAMI All-women's theater troupe which comes to the United States to perform their play La Casa Rosa but also to see their family members who cannot return to the Mexico because of their immigration status.
