The literal layer is straight forward: Ana Maria finds out that she is pregnant, gets on the phone with her husband, and eventually experiences his death due to a dramatic car accident. The metaphoric layer exposes their love by infusing existential meaning interlaced with paradigms from art, science, and philosophy.
