With Marion Hewitt of the North West Film Archive we are tracing the families of the men in the films and recreating the screenings in regional cinemas as they were 70 years ago. War Memorial is a different take on these strange and emotional films, which far from being reassuring, emphasises instead the men's doubt and uncertainty, through the directorial decisions of the largely unknown army filmmakers.
