Matt tells Maggie that he has identified a young doctor in Massachusetts as a replacement for Steve in the research lab. Chairman of the board George Richards questions Matt about Dr. Creighton's motives in choosing Carolee over Nurse Buckley and shows him a poison pen letter he received insinuating an affair between Carolee and Creighton. An indignant Nick barges into Matt's office demanding to know if Matt has hired research assistant Dr. David Field behind his back. Martha comments about Maggie's tears to Matt.
