He squirms under the thumb of a domineering wife Paulette bigger than he is. Her word is law, and he can only obey with a meek and humble, "yes, my dear". Alan is literally overshadowed by his wife. She expects him to to do everything, to run all her errands, and to care for whatever she is doing. All while his hobbies and sources of personal enjoyment will fall by the wayside. After several years of bad marriage he is now trying to find a way to escape her madness. See less
