Steve arrives and is told by Carolee and Matt that Stephanie has disappeared with Cathy after Cathy sent Carolee on a wild goose chase. Matt believes that Cathy is probably still in the hospital, though a distraught Carolee isn't so sure. Mike cites John's amazing recovery to cheer up Hank, who remains pragmatic about his chances of continuing a surgical career. He sends Toni and Mike away so that he can listen to Lauri's record again. Outside Hank's room, Toni wonders if maybe they should contact Lauri as Hank's heart is breaking. Mike disagrees. He thinks Lauri is self-centered and doesn't care. In New York, Lauri remembers her meeting with Mike and Toni. She wonders if maybe she should have told them the truth: her life has fallen apart. Carolee reaches the conclusion that Cathy kidnapped Stephanie because she hates Carolee and wants her to suffer. After Steve counters that Cathy's obsession is now with Nick, Carolee realizes that Cathy actually took Stephanie because she blames Steve for the baby she lost. Matt returns with the news that security couldn't find Cathy or the baby inside Hope Memorial. He then phones the police to report Stephanie's kidnapping to Detective Cadman.
