What we found in India is that many mentally ill patients are scorned ...See moreThis past year, Extending the Link traveled to Kolkata, India, in order to study and create a documentary that addresses the stigma surrounding mental health in India. What we found in India is that many mentally ill patients are scorned and rejected from their families. It is commonly believed there that mentally ill patients are dangerous and should be separated from the rest of society. Our documentary, titled Khulla, shows our observations and interviews with patients, community members, and volunteers that are dedicated to helping mentally ill patients integrate into society through the use of cultural therapy, ranging from art and drama to writing and song. Together, it is our goal to generate awareness and inspire action. See less
