Mike asks Toni if they can delay the wedding until Maggie has recuperated, and she agrees. Vito phones Nick who informs him that he can start at Hope Memorial immediately. Afterward, Nick says to himself that Hendryx dropped the glove, and now he's going to pick it up. Vito is happy to join Hope Memorial. He gloats about the unexpected dividend of getting hired before Toni can marry Mike. Althea visits John to reiterate that she never meant to harm him. It was a ghastly accident. John smirks. He thinks she's there for forgiveness, but she says she wants understanding. Furthermore, she'll stay with John until he's able to walk again. However, John twists her intent, arguing that she wants him to walk so that she can go to Nick. Upset, Althea leaves the room in tears and sees Nick in the corridor. He has examined John's x-rays again and thinks he knows the reason for his paralysis. Nick shows John that there's a fracture of the seventh thoracic vertebrae and speculates that neurosurgery will cure him.
