By 1985, Bolivia's economy has hit rock bottom and like many other businesses, Myriam's is also compromised. A fact that has pushed many people into illegal means to survive, such as cocaine trafficking. Myriam's values are against it. Myriam's son, JOHN PAUL, who has been studying in California, comes to visit the family in what apparently is a summer break. Yet, the reason is a lot deeper. John Paul tells Myriam that he has been infected with AIDS. The news about AIDS is that it kills fast. A treatment in France may cost over US$40,000.00. An amount Myriam doesn't have; however, she is determined to save her son. Without much thought, Myriam gets involved in the cocaine trade. A traffic that not too long ago she was very much against it. She convinces JUDITH, who lives in Cannes, to take 700 grams of cocaine to France. Cocaine that supposedly is to be sold immediately, but it is not. Dreading the worst, Myriam desperate takes more cocaine to France. She travels with her son. John Paul doesn't know anything about Myriam's trafficking plot. They end up in a French prison with a 10-years sentence instead, and without any chance for John Paul to receive the AIDS treatment he so urgently needs. In prison, Myriam learns that John Paul will not die soon, as she had believed it will happen all along. Written by
