Jason returns to see Steve one last time before leaving for Texas. The two brothers have apologies for one another, and Steve confesses that his secret to women is "dangle them hope," but says he's a reformed charmer because he and Carolee are both paying for it now. Matt reveals to Maggie that he promised Steve that they would commit themselves to Carolee as she prepares to give birth, but Maggie finds it a privilege. He tells her that Carolee also asked to step down to floor nurse again, and although he wouldn't grant the request, he knows that he might have to defend her to the board of directors. Before going, Jason promises to return for Steve's trial. Matt tells Maggie about the new clue in the case. Believing that there's a solution to Dan's murder in the details, Reynolds pushes Steve to recall everything about his last meeting with Dan. After Steve remembers that Dan asked him to move the I.V. rig closer to him, Reynolds realizes that it could mean the difference between prison and going free for Steve.
