Second Line / Second Life chronicles his remarkable healing and the rebirth of his community through a deeply rooted ritual known as a Second Line. It is told by Mill Valley Psychiatrist, Dr. Rick Lavine, who first witnessed - and then became a part of - the story. Shot by Dr. Lavine each year from 2008-2016 and then crafted by an Emmy Award winning creative team, Second Line / Second Life tells how a father, a family and a community came together to grieve and rebuild their lives and homes through the uniquely New Orleans tradition of marching through the streets of their neighborhood with a brass band. It captures an extraordinary healing that grew from a blend of ritual, dance and music, political leadership and social action, the support of an international community and a determination to absolutely celebrate life - no matter what!
