He tells them that nitroglycerin pills were found in Dan's pocket. After Carolee reveals that Dan has been seeing a Dr. Spencer in New York, Matt places an urgent call to him. Karen daydreams about Matt telling her what a dividend it is to have her back on staff, and then she recalls Steve asking her if she can take being around Matt daily when she knows that he loves Maggie. Althea enters and overhears Karen talking to herself about Matt. Nick follows and wants Althea to know that he wasn't responsible for Cathy asking her about the apartment. Althea tells him that she just wants him to be happy, though aggressive girls like Cathy typically haven't been his style. Matt wonders if he should be Dan's doctor because Dan is convinced that Matt has sided against him with Carolee and Steve. Karen finds Steve talking to baby Erich and stops him from picking up the child, arguing that it's Matt's advice. The two begin to quarrel about it, and Karen stuns him with the news about Dan coming to Dr. Steiner's office for Carolee's OBY-GYN file. Karen says that the records indicate Carolee became pregnant a month before she married Dan and theorizes that Steve is actually the father. Matt cautions Carolee that the next two weeks will be the most dangerous for Dan following his coronary. Matt receives a call from Dr. Spencer's answering service informing him that Spencer is unavailable. Matt stresses the urgency of finding Dr. Spencer quickly for a consultation.
