But the supposed thief turns out to be cantor Rainer Bentzer, who is worried about his organist. The organ has been blaring unceasingly on a single chord from the closed church for some time. When Hubert and Staller finally break through the door and rush to the gallery, their dire premonition is confirmed: Organist Wolfgang Otten lies lifeless on the keys of his instrument. Pathologist Dr. Anja Licht determines that the church musician died of an allergic shock caused by flower pollen. Staller ruined his voice while shouting at the noisy organ. Anja Licht immediately bans him from speaking. His colleague Hubert enjoys the peace and quiet. But it doesn't last long. Hubert and Staller learn from the organist's attractive widow that Otten was suffering from an incurable tumor. An irony of fate: The already terminally ill man dies of a simple case of hay fever. But when the investigators return to the church and inspect the organ more closely, the instrument turns out to be a veritable pollen dispenser: The pollen was deliberately placed and distributed into the air via the pipes. Otten's lethal allergic reaction as a result of his illness was used to kill him. A motive quickly becomes clear, for Otten was anything but a poor church mouse. While Staller, worried about his voice, seeks the help of a naturopath, Hubert and his colleague Sonja Wirth discover that the dedicated cantor Bentzer and his choir were generously provided for in the organist's will. When financial irregularities in the renovation of Bentzer's home are also uncovered, the worried cantor appears in a whole new light. Written by ARD Das Erste See less
