I tried in any way to separate it from my thoughts, to concentrate on the film script, but this vision was continuously recurring, dominating my subconscious. This presence was starting to be cumbersome, until I understood that, maybe, it represented an urgency. I decided to try to indulge it, starting to write a script about this man, his lake and his loneliness, titled "The pier keeper". The lake, since I was born on one; it is a lively subject of my look and of my visual orientation. Loneliness, because it always provoked me, posing numerous questions, starting from the fact that such condition belongs to all, but everybody answers to it differently. I am fascinated by the ambivalence of solitude, when some people suf- fer and fight it, associating it to emptiness and sorrow, while others perceive it as a strong life necessity, a sort of privilege, which they struggle to conquer and protect; a space-time where life's distractions are contained. Loneliness as emotional isolation, or as an essential state to live and to articulate an internal speech of growth and research, is a feeling which I fear and defend at the same time. I called this man's face Remo, and I started imagining his story on the shores of the Lake Maggiore, my native land.
