He is presented with an oak gavel, a symbol of his hardy rule to keep the nation out of war; 3. The president also visits Indianapolis to attend the Hoosier State Centennial Celebration. Portland, Ore: A new life buoy for use on ships to replace the present rafts and boats, is launched by a local inventor. Subtitle: It is claimed to be absolutely unsinkable and will ride upright at all times. Ottawa, Can: The Duke of Connaught, retiring as the Governor-General of the Dominion of Canada, reviews a battalion of volunteers before he sails on his return voyage.
